Sub-ohm tanks

Manufacturers in the vaping industry don’t rest on their laurels for long. Vaping hobbyists love new toys and can’t wait to buy sub-ohm tanks with interesting new features. Manufacturers ensure their profitability by keeping hobbyists supplied with a constant stream of new toys.

New products come along so often that it can be difficult to keep track of them all. What if you’re not a hobbyist and don’t want to buy a new sub-ohm tank every week? How can you choose the best sub-ohm tank from the dozens available at any given time? You can watch or read reviews, of course, but it can be difficult to tell a candid reviewer from one who’s simply trying to sell products.

It’s better to understand the characteristics of a great sub-ohm tank so you can decide for yourself which one is best for you. In this article, we’re going to help you do that by explaining the qualities that differentiate sub-ohm tanks from one another. When you’re done reading, you’ll have a better understanding of how to choose the best sub-ohm tank for your needs.

Full vaping kits

If you aren’t sure which sub-ohm tank you should buy, the easiest solution is to buy a device that includes a tank. Just about every advanced vaping kit that we carry here at EasyPuff includes a compatible tank.

The Geekvape - Aegis Legend 2 Kit and Voopoo Drag 3 Mod Kit two options that include some of the most popular sub-ohm tanks currently available. Buying a full kit gives you a brand-new vaping device with all of the latest features and technologies.

It also gives you a new tank at a significant discount. Most importantly, there’s no need to worry about compatibility between the device and the tank. If a manufacturer includes a tank with a device, you can be certain that the two will work together.

Wattage range

It’s not uncommon for a tank to have many different coils available. The Wotofo - Nexmesh Pro Tank, for example, has four different coils already available and a new one coming out in 2021. Manufacturers in the vaping industry treat their latest tanks as platforms for ongoing development – probably at least in part to help vapers avoid confusion stemming from the glut of products available.

The good news is that no matter which sub-ohm tank interests you, it probably has coils that’ll work with your device. To be certain, though, you should check the suggested wattage ranges for a tank’s coils. If a tank doesn’t have a coil with a wattage range that falls within your device’s capabilities, you should choose a different tank because your device won’t use that tank efficiently.

If you have a device that’s more than a year old, though, maybe it’s time for an upgrade. Many sub-ohm tanks today are designed for devices that produce at least 100 watts of power. If your device can’t do that, you should consider buying a new device that includes a tank.

Inhaling style

If you haven’t bought a new e-cigarette tank in a while, one of the most important things to know is that most manufacturers currently design their tanks to appeal to those who inhale the vapour directly into their lungs.

Direct-to-lung inhaling helps a device produce bigger vapour clouds, and bigger clouds are exactly what many e-cigarette users want. If you like a vaping experience that feels like smoking, though, it’s likely that you currently use a tank optimized for inhaling from the mouth to the lungs. Mouth-to-lung tanks are still out there, but they aren’t as common as they once were.

How can you identify a mouth-to-lung tank and avoid buying a tank that you won’t enjoy using? A mouth-to-lung tank has a narrow mouthpiece and small air holes at the bottom. A direct-to-lung tank has a wide mouthpiece and large air holes.

Coil Size

Are you looking for the sub-ohm tank that generates the biggest vapour clouds? Examine the physical size of the atomizer coil. If everything else is equal, a coil with greater mass and surface area will produce more vapour than a smaller coil with less surface area.

Presently, one of the most common ways to increase the surface area of atomizer coils is to add more individual heating wires. You can find sub-ohm tanks today with atomizer coils consisting of more than 10 heating wires. As you can imagine, the vapour production of those tanks is massive. Having a large sub-ohm tank, however, does come with a few drawbacks.

If you want to fire a large atomizer coil without waiting several seconds for it to ramp up, you’re going to need a powerful vaping device. Running your device at a high wattage setting also means that your batteries won’t last long. We’ll discuss the next drawback below.

Vapour production vs. e-Liquid conservation

Having a sub-ohm tank that can generate huge clouds is a lot of fun. One of the things that many people forget to consider, though, is that blowing enormous vapour clouds means that you’ll consume a lot of e-liquid. With one of today’s extremely powerful sub-ohm tanks, you can almost watch the level of e-liquid drop as you vape.

Owning a large sub-ohm tank means that you’ll consume e-liquid more quickly, and consuming e-liquid quickly means that you’ll spend more on vaping if you purchase a large sub-ohm tank.

Vapour production vs. flavour

Is flavour quality more important to you than vapour production? If it is, you may want to buy a sub-ohm tank that’s not designed for cloud chasing. The tanks that have the biggest air vents often produce the biggest clouds. Introducing extra air into the vapour path helps to improve cloud production, but it also dilutes the flavour.

You can lower your device’s wattage and close your tank’s vents partially to reduce the airflow and improve flavour quality. If you’re going to do that, though, you might be better off buying a moderately sized sub-ohm tank instead. Cloud chasing isn’t for everyone.
