SMOK Vaping Tanks Comparison and Coil Compatibility Guide

SMOK vaping tanks might be the most popular e-cigarette accessories in the world. You can find them – both on their own and bundled with SMOK’s many successful vaping devices – in practically every vape shop. SMOK’s vaping tanks are known for their flashy designs, quality construction, innovative technologies and extreme vapour production. One area in which SMOK suffers a bit, though, is in its naming schemes. SMOK has an enormous selection of tanks bearing the TFV8 and TFV12 brand names, and most of them don’t have compatible coils. At first glance, it’s also difficult to tell exactly what type of vaping experience each tank provides or who the ideal user is for each tank.
SMOK TFV8 Series
A new vaping tank isn’t cheap. However, it should provide a great vaping experience for many years – or at least keep you happy until the next big thing comes along. You already know that SMOK vaping tanks are some of the best on the market; you just need to know which SMOK tank is for your needs. This comparison will help.
SMOK TFV8 Cloud Beast
Coils Compatible With: TFV8 Cloud Beast Only
Until the release of the TFV12 Cloud Beast King, the TFV8 Cloud Beast was SMOK’s flagship tank for cloud chasers. It was the first tank to use atomizer coils with up to eight individual heating wires, and it was certainly the world’s premier cloud chasing tank at the time of its release. However, with its huge clouds and slightly decreased e-liquid usage compared to the TFV12 Cloud Beast King, the TFV8 Cloud Beast remains the top vaping choice for many sub-ohm vapers.
SMOK TFV8 Baby Beast
Coils Compatible With TFV8 Baby Beast, TFV8 Big Baby Beast, TFV12 Baby Prince
With the TFV8 series, SMOK began its current tradition of releasing smaller tanks that take advantage of the innovative new technologies in its larger tanks. For example, with several heating wires per coil, the SMOK TFV8 Baby Beast has coils with very similar designs to those of the TFV8 Cloud Beast. The TFV8 Baby Beast, however, offers those technologies in a smaller package that works well with slim vaping devices and has modest wattage requirements.
SMOK TFV8 X-Baby
Coils Compatible With: TFV8 X-Baby Only
The TFV8 X-Baby is a bit of an oddball in the SMOK vaping tank range. It’s the only SMOK TFV8 or TFV12 tank with airflow vents at the top rather than the bottom. Since top airflow necessitates a different coil design, coils for the TFV8 X-Baby aren’t compatible with other SMOK tanks. The top airflow design means that the SMOK TFV8 X-Baby doesn’t generate quite as much vapour as the TFV8 Baby Beast because the long air channels reduce airflow slightly. However, the top airflow makes the TFV8 X-Baby quiet and resistant to leaks.
SMOK TFV8 Big Baby Beast
Coils Compatible With TFV8 Baby Beast, TFV8 Big Baby Beast, TFV12 Baby Prince
The SMOK TFV8 Big Baby is an enlarged version of the original TFV8 Baby Beast. While the TFV8 Baby holds 2 ml of e-liquid, the TFV8 Big Baby holds 5ml. The tanks are otherwise virtually identical, and the coils are compatible.
SMOK TFV12 Series
SMOK TFV12 Cloud Beast King
Coils Compatible With: TFV12 Cloud Beast King Only
The TFV12 Cloud Beast King is SMOK’s flagship tank for sub-ohm vapers who crave the biggest, most flavourful clouds that an e-cigarette can produce. SMOK’s new TFV12 coils use as many as 12 heating wires to facilitate this tank’s truly outstanding vapour production. The cost of using such a thirsty tank, though, is that you’ll need to refill it constantly. People have consistently expressed surprise about the massive amount of e-liquid that the TFV12 Cloud Beast King consumes, but those huge vapour clouds have to come from somewhere.
SMOK TFV12 Prince
Coils Compatible With: TFV12 Prince Only
The SMOK TFV12 Prince is probably the world’s most popular vaping tank. As they did with the TFV8 Baby Beast, SMOK harnessed the technical innovations of the TFV12 Cloud Beast King and put them in a smaller package that provides a similarly great vaping experience with slightly reduced e-liquid consumption and much lower wattage requirements. Out of all the vaping tanks available today, many people believe that the SMOK TFV12 Prince provides the ideal combination of great vapour production and modest e-liquid consumption.
In addition to utilizing up to 12 heating wires, one of the interesting technical innovations of the SMOK TFV12 Prince is that each atomizer coil has 12 wick openings. Even the TFV12 Cloud Beast King doesn’t have that feature. The wick openings allow the TFV12 Prince to support a swift vaping pace and to work with even the thickest e-liquids without producing dry hits.
SMOK TFV12 Baby Prince
Coils Compatible With TFV8 Baby Beast, TFV8 Big Baby Beast, TFV12 Baby Prince
Here’s where things get a little confusing. The SMOK TFV12 Baby Prince doesn’t use coils from the TFV12 series at all – it uses TFV8 Baby Beast coils! The TFV12 Baby Prince is functionally similar to the TFV8 Baby Beast except that it has two enhancements. The first is a bulb-shaped glass enclosure that allows the tank to hold 4.5 ml of e-liquid. The second enhancement is a modernized design that matches the visual style of SMOK’s latest vaping mods. SMOK now includes the TFV12 Baby Prince with some of their small vaping devices. You can find it with the SMOK Mag Baby kit and the SMOK Resa Stick kit.
