The vape coil or atomizer is the part of your e-cigarette which heats up and turns your e-liquid into a vapour that is then inhaled by you through the mouthpiece of your e-cigarette. Your coil or atomizer is a heating element that turns a liquid into a vapour. The resistance of a vape coil is measured in ohms and vaporizer coils with higher resistance will use less power to heat the same amount of e-liquid. 

Vape coils are made from a variety of different materials which have high resistive powers such as stainless steel, titanium, nickel, and Kanthal. Many people refer to the atomizer as not just the coil but also the device which houses the coil. There a variety of different vape coils designs, and each has its own unique features and specifications. 

Different Kinds of Vape Coils

There are a variety of different vape coils, however, they all perform the same basic function of turning e-liquid into a vapour. 

• Pre-Made Vape Coils – Pre-made vape coils are the simplest and most basic type of coils. You don’t have to make them or modify them before use, screw them in, and give the wicking material time to soak and you’re ready to vape. Different pre-made vape coils will fit different vaporizers and it’s important to read your manual and choose a vape coil that suits your device. Multiple pre-made coils will fit the same type of vaporizer and each will produce different results such as more or less vapour and flavour. The best thing about using pre-made vape coils is that they are simple and effective. They don’t require any advanced knowledge or skills. However, they are more expensive and will require a larger investment over the life of your e-cigarette or vaporizer.

• Rebuildable Vape Coils – Rebuildable vape coils are going to give you the best vaping experience, but they aren’t easy to make, and it’s recommended that beginners don’t attempt making them. Vapers get to build and create their vape coils based on their specific vaping requirements. It costs more to get into building your coils as it’s more complicated and requires certain equipment, but in the long run, it’s going to save you money.

There are a variety of different rebuildable coil types, including:

• RDA – These are the easiest vape coils to make and utilize a single vape coil. They produce a lot of vapour and flavour. 
• RTA – Rebuildable tank atomizers utilize a pressurized tank that supplies e-liquid to the vape coil. 

When you start getting into vape coils and especially building your vape coils, you’ll discover that there are a lot of different terms that get thrown around such as GTA, RDTA, etc., but they are all basic variations of either RDAs or RTAs.
