Worst vaping lies that are spread by the media
There are 9 sick vaping lies that the mainstream media loves to spread
The mainstream media has evolved from being a platform that brings unbiased news to its audience to a bubble that feeds them only what they want to hear. Those who thrive in these bubbles thrive in an environment where there are many media outlets. Facts and news have become less important to people. Today, they rely instead on their favorite news anchors or TV show hosts to give them their version, their opinion, and their take on the facts. Mainstream media has been beating up on the vaping industry for a long time.
No matter whether it's the word 'cigarette' in e-cigarette, the negative perception of nicotine, or something else, the public has a negative view of e-cigarettes. In their attempts to appease their audiences' sensibilities, no matter how unfounded their claims are in fact, mainstream media outlets and government officials have hounding the vaping industry for decades. The time has come to dispel their lies and establish the truth once and for all. I have compiled a list of the 10 worst lies about vaping spread by the mainstream media.
1: In comparison to smoking, vaping is just as bad if not worse
A number of top researchers around the world have concluded that vaping does not cause any health problems. The results of a long-term study conducted by a world-renowned researcher explicitly concluded that vaping does not pose any health risks to vapers. The hypocritical media and politicians keep ranting against vaping incessantly, which is the most potent evidence against them.
The number of active smokers worldwide exceeds one billion. E-cigarettes have proved to be the most effective remedy for smokers to help them quit, and they have a very high success rate as well. There is a moral responsibility on the part of the media and politicians to spread the truth and assist those 1 billion people in quitting their habit. But that's not the case. In contrast, they spend all their time and energy spreading whatever they want.
2: There is a tobacco industry monopoly in the vaping industry
According to a recent study conducted by Go Smoke Free, there are some interesting facts about this topic. Only 20% of all vape brands are owned by tobacco companies, according to the study. There are 80% of the brands that are owned by businesses and entrepreneurs who are not associated with the tobacco industry.
of vaping is relatively new. There is no doubt that e-cigarettes are not a new invention. There have been decades of them here. Lorillard purchased Blu in 2012, becoming the first tobacco company to acquire a vape brand. In today's market, nine tobacco companies own roughly 20% of all vape brands. Dedicated vape enthusiasts who are not controlled by tobacco companies still dominate the market.
3: Our bodies are filled with toxins from e-cigarettes
As a result of a poorly designed and executed experiment by Portland State University, this claim originated in the formaldehyde scare. In their experiment, the researchers burned cheap vape coils at temperatures that were higher than anything produced by e-cigarettes. Any living creature could have been killed by the sheer dryness produced by those high temperatures. It is inevitable that their peers will debunk this study. Media outlets created breaking news headlines in spite of the lack of credibility of the study itself.
4: Nicotine is used in vapes, which causes cancer
The world is largely unaware of the effects of nicotine. As a result of its involvement in the tobacco industry, it generates a lot of negative responses. The facts are as follows. Nicotine induces a high in smokers when they smoke cigarettes. No doubt about it - nicotine is the primary ingredient in cigarettes. Smoking does cause cancer, and yes, cigarettes are harmful. However, it is not nicotine that causes cancer. Among other harmful chemicals, cigarettes contain tar, ash, carbon monoxide, arsenic, and even formaldehyde, which can cause cancer. The chemicals in cigarettes cause terrible health problems in smokers. Not nicotine.
There are different levels of nicotine concentration in e-juices that vapers use. There are even some that don't contain any nicotine at all. There is no danger to vapers from even nicotine-containing e-juices. The reason is that e-cigarettes do not burn e-juice. As a result, they produce vapors instead. Nicotine is harmless when it is vaporized. Ex-smokers need nicotine to quit smoking in order to be successful. In order to eventually quit nicotine dependency fully, they should get their nicotine fix on a daily basis, so that their nicotine concentration can be slowly tapered down to negligible levels.
5: A vape explodes and kills a user
When the anti-vape brigade realized that it had no solid scientific evidence to support its 'vapes are harmful' campaign, it changed its narrative to 'vapes explode'. Yes, e-cigarettes do sometimes explode. Mostly because of irresponsible behavior on part of the vaper, not because of an inherent problem with the e-cigarettes.
Usually, e-cigarettes that explode are those that have been modified. It is not always possible for people to exercise the same level of precaution and battery safety when they build their own e-cigarettes. As a result, sometimes their mods explode due to mishandling the batteries. It is always possible for factory-built e-cigarettes to explode, even when users do not follow proper battery safety tips. However, the number of vape explosions is very limited. The annual rate of fire accidents caused by cigarettes, however, is estimated at nearly 100,000.
6: Vaping is a gateway to smoking, drinking, and marijuana use
Vaping does not appear to act as a gateway to more serious habits. All available evidence suggests that vaping is an exit from more serious behaviors.
As teenagers become more aware of the harmful effects of smoking, less and less of them are taking up smoking, according to data from several countries. When they do start smoking, e-cigarettes can help smokers quit their habit as a powerful alternative to tobacco.
7: The vaping industry targets children and catches them at a young age
Have you ever wondered which vape brands cannot advertise their products as healthier alternatives to smoking? There's more to it than that. Additionally, they cannot mention any health benefits of vaping or the fact that their products are smoke-free. Thus, vape brands cannot advertise their products' benefits. Therefore, vape brands have no other option but to advertise their products using celebrities and lifestyles.
The politicians who banned vape brands from running any other type of advertising now complain that these brands are using celebrities to promote their products. Celebrities like this hook children to vaping, they argue. Mainstream media, which always bullies the vape industry, is eager to comment. In spite of this, they conveniently forget that children are not allowed to purchase vape products. It is beyond comprehension why any smart businessman would market his product to people who will never buy it.
8: In the near future, governments will ban vaping
Anybody who claims this has either been living under a rock for the past decade or is totally insane. E-cigarettes are a central component of almost every developed nation's anti-smoking strategy. Policies are being implemented to promote vaping among smokers as a way to help them quit. Governments have long endorsed nicotine-free e-liquids. As lawmakers become more aware of the benefits of e-cigarettes, even nicotine-containing e-juices are gaining support.
Future prospects are anything but certain. With every passing day, the e-cigarette industry's future grows brighter.
9: Antifreeze is contained in e-cigarettes
Some mad genius accidentally discovered that propylene glycol, an ingredient in e-liquids, is also present in many brands of anti-freeze. All of this was gleefully embraced by the trigger-happy media. Despite having done no basic research, mainstream media outlets started reporting that e-juices contain antifreeze. However, the genius who observed propylene glycol in e-liquids didn't know that propylene glycol is neither an anti-freeze nor an active ingredient. A mad genius might accidentally swallow some anti-freeze, so propylene glycol is added to make it less harmful. Taking precautions is always a good idea.
Because e-juices contain propylene glycol, the media claim that they contain antifreeze, just as they claim that you drink coffee when you drink milk, since both contain water. This makes no sense at all. But the media won't let something silly like Sense and Logic stop them from perpetuating their anti-vape narrative, now, will they? They're going to lose business because of that.
Thank you for all you do to support e-cigarettes and vaping. I wish your reviews could be published more widely to bring some sense into the anti-minded media.
I agree with everything you’ve said, but it’s a shame that the way you’ve said it is so unconvincing. If you’re going to make statements like “The results of a long-term study conducted by a world-renowned researcher…” name the researcher. And it’s counter-productive to say things like “living under a rock for the past decade or is totally insane”.
